CAR's active industry partnerships and engineering testing services, coupled with 5 student project teams create an environment dedicated to the development of innovation solutions for tomorrow's transporation and mobility sectors. Two successful CAR consortia have 24 members from the transportation and utility industries. Members participate in original research projects and have access to data from other CAR projects in three research areas, propulsion systems, vehicle systems and transportation systems.

Another facet of CAR's research program is projects awarded by government agencies such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Army Automotive Tank Research, and Ohio Third Frontier Wright Centers.

CAR is home to five student project teams that comprise Ohio State Motorsports. The interdisciplinary project teams bring together OSU students from engineering, business, graphic design and marketing to experience real-world application of what they have learned in OSU classrooms.
